Cheap Flights to Kefalonia

Cheap flights to Kefalonia

Cheap flights to Kefalonia with Kiss Flights

Kefalonia is beautiful with Thyme scented slopes, wild heather mountainsides, the tinkling of goat bells and smooth sand and pebble beaches lapped by cool clear waters; the lush scenery of this beautiful Ionian island was captured perfectly in the film of Captain Corelli's Mandolin. At the heart of the island mighty Mount Enos looms above cobalt Ionian waters and mysterious geological phenomena reveal the island's seismic vulnerability. But Kefalonia's charm also lies in its simplicity; crumbling ruins, olive grove donkey trails, sleepy harbour fronts and shady tavernas.

Mount Enos at a staggering 1600m dominates the island of Kefalonia and is the highest peak of all the Ionian islands. Named the Black Mountain by the Venetians after its forests of rare black firs, this shady canopy of pines provides some cool respite from the dry heat below with beautiful walks amidst rich alpine scenery and abundant bird life.

FLIGHTS

Kefalonia's typical Mediterranean climate sees hot summers from May to September with the temperatures well above 20ºC and normally in excess of 30ºC during the peak months of July and August. These temperatures are slightly higher than some of the neighbouring island as summer winds tend to be very mild.

BEACHES

Cheap flights to Kefalonia on Kiss Flights for wonderful beaches

The stunning white limestone beach at Myrtos is one of Kefalonia's most dramatic, fringed by bright turquoise waters and quite spectacular when viewed from the coast road high above. Some of Kefalonia's remoter beaches lie on the Paliki peninsula, just across the bay to the west of Argostoli. The smooth white pebbles and shingly sands of the horseshoe shaped beach of Petani make a great spot to watch the sunset and the red sand beach of Xi is backed by unusual lunar like cliffs.

FAMILIES

Family fun in Kefalonia

The soft pale sands of Lassi are perfect for family beach fun. Both of the resort's beaches, Makris Yialos (long beach) and Plati Yialos (wide beach) boast gently shelving sands and clear turquoise seas and are considered to be the island's finest.

On the road from Argostoli to Sami lie the natural attractions of the Drogarati Caves and the underground lake of Melissani. Encrusted with stalagmites and stalactites the natural acoustics of the labyrinthine Drogarati caves also form a great concert amphitheatre. The translucent blue waters of Melissani are fed by subterranean springs where visitors are offered a rowing boat tour around the lake, tunnels and caves. Boat and caique trips sail from most of Kefalonia's fishing harbours and ports and will take you round to some of the more attractive and secluded coves that are scattered around the coastline.

SPORTS

Cheap flights to Kefalonia for a great sports scene

Small motor boats are available for hire in most of the major resorts including Argostoli, Lassi, Assos, Agia Efimia and Fiskardo. Seating from 2 - 6 passengers and costing around €50 to €80 per day to hire they are easy to operate and a great way of exploring the coastline and discovering some of the more secluded coves and beaches. Check with your operator before setting off as insurance restrictions on travelling distance may apply.

Kefalonia's rich scenery and mixed history yields up some fascinating hiking and biking terrain. The Friends of Kefalonia publish a series of self guided trails round some of island's most interesting sights; the Roman mosaics of Skala, the exuberant village of Kourkoumelata and the Piccolo Yiro Trail or Short Route from Argostoli which will take you round the headland to the British Lighthouse.
